58th Jamboree on the Air (JOTA)/19th Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI)

On 17 October 2015 Cubs and Scouts from Armidale will be participating in the annual Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet. The group is able to do this thanks to members of the Armidale Amateur Radio Club, who have arranged to host us at their club house for a few hours on Saturday. The activity starts at 12:45pm and finishes at 3:00pm on Saturday 17 October.

This activity is a great opportunity to make contact with scouts from other parts of Australia and around the world via the airwaves and optic fibre. Akela Mel (our cub leader) is organising this activity for the group. More information is available on the activity notification form. Please complete and return the form by the closing date  to participate:

Cub Scout Angus talks about his Grey Wolf Walk

“It looked like a big storm was coming but it only rained a little bit at the start.
Cubs that attended were Angus, Josh, Lachlan, Tom & Corin. We also had Mel & Lando come along to supervise.
We went to lots of lookouts and saw kangaroos and wallabies with joeys.
We stopped for afternoon tea where I knew there was a Geo Cache. There was a competition of who could find it first, Tom found it first & won a prize.
I had a really good time, thank you to everyone who came along. Thank you especially to Akela for helping me prepare for my Grey Wolf Hike.”

Do you want to abseil, bush walk, or canoe this spring?

The Regional Youth Activity Weekend is again being held at Kamilaroi Scout Camp on 24 and 25 October. Youth are able to choose to participate in abseiling (for scouts only), bushwalking (for scouts only), or canoeing (cubs and scouts). These activities are being coordinated by Regional Commissioner Activities Stephanie McColley M: 0414 565 985.  A separate activity notification form exists for each of these activities and you should complete the form for the activity that you want to undertake over the weekend. The forms are attached via the links below for your convenience:

Abseiling (for scouts only): 241015 R YAW Pages 1 & 2 Abseiling

Bushwalking (for scouts only): 241015 R YAW Pages 1 & 2 Bushwalking

Canoeing (for cubs and scouts): 241015 R YAW Pages 1 & 2 Canoeing

This is a self catered camp, so the group will need to organise meals for the weekend, arrange transport to and from the camp, and Armidale leaders will be responsible for supervision of youth from our group when they are not participating in their chosen activity.

Ideally we will organise a catering team of parents and leaders who can attend the weekend and help out with preparing a meal or two for our group. Please let me know if you are interested in attending and providing support in this way. A separate form and fee will be organised by the group to cover transport and catering once numbers are known. For leaders and helpers not participating in an activity, please fill out the following form and include your payment by the closing date (as for cubs or scouts).

Cubs will need to return their form and payment by Tuesday 15 September. Scouts will need to return forms and payment by 16 September. This will allow us to return the forms and fees by the closing date.

Cub Scout completes Grey Wolf Walk

Cob Scout Josh writes about his recent Grey Wolf Walk:

The grey wolf hike was GREAT!!   We started our hike. Not long after, we got to the Falls Lookout. Next was Checks lookout, but it was a construction site and was unsafe. Gorge lookout was by far the best and where we had our break (pic below). It’s a large rock pile that has a really good view. On the way back we found a geocache. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. This was all on the 8.8.15 started 2:13 ended 4:15

Pictured are all of us enjoying a snack at gorge view: Arwyn, Lachlan, Lando, Tom, Angus, Josh, Hamish
